Content is king
This is a disclosure I received in a product I use on a daily basis, Interactive Brokers:
I use Interactive Brokers’ software to do algorithmic day-trading. Recently, I’ve been using it more frequently than normal. So the disclosure was triggered.
What I believe they’re trying to decipher here is if I know what I’m doing. And if I have controls in place to ensure that my API usage is being done conscientiously enough to keep me safe.
What’s wrong with the disclosure from a content perspective?
Checking the first option will results in disabling my API trading functionality. This would be a big no-no. Good thing I was paying attention.
Options 2 and 3 are not mutually exclusive. So which should I pick? And am I really expected to read the extra fine-print to decipher what the author really means?
More effort should have been made by the copywriter to:
Understand the user
Explain the intention; and
Communicate my options better?
Content is king
Content is one of the most over-looked and under-appreciated parts of any product.
Copywriters and content experts help bridge the gap between end-users and a brand. They help the brand communicate effectively and empathetically with its fans.
Copywriters help a company create an experience so delightful, that users have no choice but to rave about it. And who do they rave to? Their friends. And what’s the most effective form of marketing in the world?
You guessed it.
